Possibly one like this WHITE MAGIC Liteon LVW-5045? These "special" DVD Recorders have been sold out for a few years now, and they are getting more and more difficult to find. Many of the Liteon LVW-5045 DVD Recorders (& LVW-5005 & LVW-5006 DVD Recorders) that have been available recently on Ebay were advertising problems like: DVD drive does not always open, or ... Drive does not recognize CD's and/or DVD's, or... Unit does not respond to commands from either the front panel or the remote... These problems are, in almost all cases, the result of DVD Burner drive failure. Most of the time the DVD Burner drive failure is caused by the recording of disks that the drive's firmware was not set up for, such as the newer high speed disks that are currently available in the marketplace today and that were not available when the drive was manufactured. It is VERY IMPORTANT for the life of the DVD Burner to keep the DVD Burner drive's firmware up to date. The DVD Burner firmware in my WHITE MAGIC units are all updated to the most current available firmware. When replacing DVD Burner Drives in LVW-5045, LVW-5005 and LVW-5006 DVD Recorders, there are issues you should be aware of,  please click HERE & HERE for more information regarding this.  Although there are a number of different PC IDE DVD Burner Drives that could be used as acceptable replacements for the worn out original DVD Burner Drives, my preference is to use either Liteon or Sony DVD Burner Drives for the following reasons: Drives are smaller in length than most drives, making for an easier fit inside the unit. RPC1 (Region free) firmware is readily available for Liteon and Sony DVD Burner Drives. Liteon and Sony Drives (which are rebadged Liteon Drives) are very good DVD Burners. However, as is the case with almost all PC DVD Burner drives, when these drives are used in a Liteon LVW-5005, LVW-5006 or LVW-5045, you lose the capability to do SVCD and VCD Recordings. These drives will play SVCD and VCD disks OK, they just will no longer record to SVCD or VCD disks. The Liteon and Sony DVD Burner Drives I use ALL have Fast Forward functionality, be aware that this is something most other DVD Burners are unable to provide when used in a Liteon DVD Recorder. =====================================================================  BLACK MAGIC VS. DVD Recorders are sensitive electronic devices, never, never, never plug this unit directly into a wall socket, always use a Surge Suppressor. The small cost of a Surge Suppressor is well worth it if it saves your unit from zapped out of service even once. Always power your unit off at the unit's front panel when finished using it, never, never, never leave your unit running for extended periods in standby mode. Why risk premature power supply failure by needlessly leaving a unit powered on when it's not being used. Do yourself a favor, shut it off. As these units are no longer made, any unecessary actions which could shorten the life of your DVD Recorder should be avoided as much as possible.
