We are assuming that a potential bidder looking at this auction already understands what TiVo (www.tivo.com) is and how it works. We are omitting the usual line after line of TiVo features you find in many eBay TiVo listings. Connection to TiVo is via phone line or optional USB wired or wireless broadband compatible network adapter. If you have a cable or DSL internet connection then this will be an option. This unit is guaranteed to work normally on arrivaland problems, if any need to be reported withing 3 days of receipt. Shipping Shipping is via DHL ground in USA and USPS for Alaska, Hawaii, territories. Charges include handling and full insurance. Winning bidder may pay more for a different shipment option except FedEx. Local pickup by appointment only for a $10 handling fee. For DHL we will need to know phone number at shipping address and whether address is a business or residence before we can ship. Please send email address if you want tracking info. Despite what is indicated below in the eBay shipping box, shipping charges are not the same for all USA buyers. Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, or any other USA address outside the contiguous 48 states must include an additional $15 to the quoted DHL charge for USPS priority shipping. Testing/Reconditioning Procedure When a TiVo unit arrives here the first thing we do is a "clear and delete everything" process which takes about one hour. Then we run a new guided setup using the RF connection and our phone line. At this point we check to make sure everything displays as it should on the TV screen. Next the unit is opened up and all the accumulated dust, if any,  is blown out with an air compressor. The hard drive is then removed, backed up, and then the Linux data on the drive is copied to a larger capacity hard drive. The new hard drive is installed in the machine and then connected back up to the TV for a few minutes of final testing. We check to make sure live TV and recorded programs display correctly.  We also listen to the quality of the sound for both live TV and recorded programs.  The unit is then closed up and prepared for sale. While rare, problems could conceivably crop up after the unit has been on for a longer time, but as near as we can tell few, if any, of our competitors are testing any more than we do. So far we have had twelve units only out of about 345 sold that were returned. Two displayed an almost unnoticeable random flicker after being on for a while, two had user induced software problems, five had a random intermittent recording problem which was cured by reimaging the drive, one had a loose hard drive connector, and one combo unit had a bad DVD player. More than half of the problems involved Toshiba units which we no longer handle. Does My TiVo need a UPS??? Probably. Tivo's are writing to the hard drive 100% of the time (whether in standby or not) if they are plugged in. This means that any power spike, fluctuation, or interruption can easily corrupt the TiVo software on the drive. Most TiVo experts recommend that both your TiVo and cable box be plugged into a Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) of at least 350 watts to prevent such occurances. Please do not confuse a UPS with one of those little power strip surge protectors (though a UPS does offer surge protection). 90% of TiVo problems involve the hard drive, and a little prevention is surely worth it. A UPS has a very large internal battery which can run the TiVo and cable box for a short time during a brief power interruption. This battery does wear down over time so we do not suggest buying a used UPS. If you watch the ads for Fry's, CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. you can frequently find these with nice rebates.  Larger units than the 350 watt minimum will run the plugged in units longer during a power interruption but generally provide no more surge protection. Warranty We offer no warranty on this used electrical unit other than it will work normally for at least 3 days from receipt. As with any electrical unit, parts do occasionally fail without warning.  Please do not ask for a return or refund after the 3 days are up.  After the 3 days we will do our best to help resolve any problems that come up, and will even be happy to look at and repair the unit if need be, but shipping charges will be paid both ways by the winning bidder as well as any parts needed (very rare). In the unlikely event that the unit arrives with obvious or possible damage from DHL or USPS shipping, the buyer agrees to repack the unit exactly as we shipped it and to call DHL or post office to file an insurance claim.
